Researchers at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health and the UA Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources received a $1.6 million federal grant to develop more effective training methods, including using “serious computer games,” to improve safety among U.S. mine workers.

David G. Marrero, PhD, director of the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center for Health Disparities Research and professor of public health at the UA Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, has been appointed to a new national diabetes working group and task force to promote equitable and comprehensive diabetes care.
Victoria Murrain, DO, has been appointed interim deputy dean for diversity and inclusion at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. Dr. Murrain also is assistant dean and designated institutional officer for graduate medical education at the Tucson UA South Campus and associate professor in the UA Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Dr. Drazen, editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, will discuss data sharing in clinical trials. He is the invited speaker for the 2018 James E. Dalen, MD, MPH, Distinguished Lecture for Health Policy, which is free and open to the public.
Thanks to the four-year diversity grant, the college will expand its support of students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in nursing in Arizona.
