Mark joined the leadership team at the UA Health Sciences on June 3.

“We believe Mark is the ideal choice for this new position,” said Michael D. Dake, MD, senior vice president for the UA Health Sciences. “He has broad experience in leading communications for an academic medical center and a strong track record of rebuilding and shaping communication teams with a metrics-driven approach. We expect Mark to play a critical role in advancing our health sciences mission and elevating our reputation in Arizona, the nation and throughout the world.”

Lane will be responsible for building and leading an integrated UA Health Sciences communications team, and developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with institutional priorities.

Most recently, Lane served as assistant vice president for communications at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he supervised teams responsible for communications; media and public relations; community and industry relations; institutional and employee communications; digital and social media; and video, photography, and interactive design and development.

Over the last 20 years, Lane has held communications and public relations leadership positions for some of the most influential companies and institutions in their respective sectors, including the Children’s Research Institute at UT Southwestern and the parent company of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Illinois, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

“I’m excited to join the team at the University of Arizona Health Sciences, and I look forward to working closely and collaboratively with institutional, academic and clinical leadership to establish a strategic vision for communications that will expand the influence and impact of the institution,” said Lane.

Lane graduated magna cum laude from Texas Tech University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in journalism.
